railway station deli, budapest railway station déli - budapest, hungary   project: railway station deli location: budapest, hungary date: 1996 installation: 7 x railvox outdoor vertical line array.                     3 x octadrive.                     3 x octarray.                     1 x serial gateway.                     1 x pc network host inc. audionet navigator software.                     1 x penta-q parametric equalizer.  electro acoustical concept: peutz & associes bv. hardware: duran audio bv. contractor: mav, hungary station deli is a modern station that was build in 1970’s it is situated in the south part of budapest only a short distance from a residential quarter and hotels. because of the acoustical annoyance that was experienced by the neighborhood (which was primarily caused by the 24 hour continuous stream of announcements), the old sound system was replaced by loudspeaker arrays. the excellent pattern control of these sources combined with an intelligent gain control system, makes the choice of a vertical loudspeaker array advantageous. for this outdoor application the railvox was designed, a rugged stainless steel 2 x 16 element double sided freestanding array. to deal with the extreme weather conditions, weatherproof drivers where used, as well as frost protection for both amps and drivers. the railvox is equipped with a network interface that is used to send information about inside and outside temperatures, surveillance status, and measured ambient noise levels, to a central host computer. besides the zone selection and surveillance functions, this pc runs a database of measured noise levels based on a weekly scheme. the database is used to program the announcement levels to a specific pattern that automatically adapts to the railway schedule. the actual announcement level as well as the database are continuously updated for each individual column, the ( limited ) correction values are dependent on the difference of the database values, and the actual measured levels. the 12 platforms are covered by 8 railvox columns, 1 railvox is used in the terminal. the total of 9 railvox columns replaces the former installation of almost 1000 distributed speakers.
